Narrative in Online Relationship Development

A co-operative inquiry investigating how narrative is beneficial in
building relationships in online groups

Sharing information vs. sharing our stories

Comparison Test
You are invited to participate in a comparison test between a) the sharing of public personal information and b) introductions made by email.

Purpose
The purpose of the comparison test is to establish what is most useful for the introductions stage of online groups.

Process
In this test you are asked to review and compare 11 different profiles each containing a public profile and an email introduction to the group. Then you will anonymously answer several open and closed questions in an online form which is then submitted.

You can review all the profiles if you like, or just review one or two if that's all you have time for. Reviewing all the profiles could take up to 40-50 mins.

This study which will establish what the impact of two very different types of introductions has on individuals within our group. From the comparison test we will see what is useful at the beginning stages of online groups – particularly what is important in introducing ourselves online, and also what is important for the members of groups that we facilitate.

The results of the survey will be collated over the next week and put up on the website for all to review and comment on.
